Polar Bear Workshop, 26 May 2017

Ashlyn told her mum that she wants to make a Polar Bear to commemorate Inuka whom passed away last month at the Singapore Zoo.

Ashlyn choose the eye and nose colour for her bear. Wayne taught her how to sew and attach them. She learnt that she needs to stuff the poly fiber a little bit at a time so it's easier to reach the narrow areas on the arms on legs. During the process of stuffing, she switched between using her fingers and a stuffing stick from time to time.

Ashlyn is a patient student, she listens attentively to Wayne's instruction and done a great job sewing and closing the opening of the polar after stuffing.

After the polar is complete, she used black DMC thread to sew each paw lines on the limbs.

To finish off the bear, she gave the polar some bells around his neck.
Well done Ashlyn, we are so proud of you and we hope to see you again soon.

Hugs,
Wayne

Treacle Bear Workshop, 21 May 2018

This week we welcomed Monique coming to learn to make Treacle, the travelling bear.

She love Treacle because he is small and has a cute little wobble head. She also shared with us that this is her third time making a bear and this workshop is a refresher course for her to start this hobby again. Wayne shared with her the basic hand sewing techniques and how to apply ladder stitching to close the opening of her bear after stuffing.

With some extra time given, Monique is also able to complete a tiny leather bag for her bear. At the end of the class, Wayne commented that her little bear has some resemblance to her son!

We want to thank and congratulate Monique for completing another wonderful bear to add into her collection.

We hope to see you again soon.

Hugs,
Wayne

Bundle Baby Workshop, 20 & 21 April 2018

Carmel, Nicole and Joanne

Wayneston Studios is pleased to collaborate with Art Doll Artist, Carmel Ooi to conduct a Bundle Baby Workshop in April. This workshop has welcomed 4 students, namely Hema, Esther, Joanne and Nicole.

Carmel shared with the students the type of clay and tools used to sculpt the doll. Each student was given a pre-baked head armature with eyes in the correct position before adding and baking clay in layers. Using this method the polymer clay requires multiple baking times so that each adjustment remains hard and fixed at the desired position before adding more detail to the face.

Once the eye muscles/structure was ready, the students later added cheeks, lower jaw and lips to their baby. Each baby has a different expression and they are truly One-of-a-Kind. After the head is done, Carmel showed the students how to make a soft body for the baby and gave each of them a hand-sewn blanket for the baby to sleep in.

At the end of the class, we took several group photos. We would like to thank Carmel for her time and for sharing her valuable knowledge with us. We look forward to having her in Wayneston Studios again to conduct another doll making class.

Hugs,
Wayne
