We are pleased to have Ms Anna Filatovia from Russia as the judge for our Singapore Teddy Bear Lovers' 3rd Competition.

This event, hosted by Wayne, aimed to promote self-learning and improvement. With today's increasing hectic lifestyles, this event was important for the group, because it provided a form of motivation and push for everyone to complete at least one Teddy Bear in a year and the opportunity to grow together as a team.

Our Teddy Bears created from Anna's pattern.
There was a total of 20 participants, twice the participation compared to last year!

The theme “Funny Tea Party” gave everyone a new breakthrough and excitement. Breaking away from the traditional Christmas theme, this was the time for everyone to be innovative and think out-of-the-box. It showed that bear-making has gone far beyond just making a simple bear itself, but calls for a spark of creativity and originality. We are continuously striving to improve ourselves in every way we can. So this competition gave everyone an opportunity to explore endless possibilities, with each bear having their own story to tell.

For those who have participated in this competition, they soon realised that the pattern created by Anna, who is a Russia artist is very different from the regular patterns we had made before. This has given us the opportunity to learn from a new concept of teddy bear design.

We congratulate Irene Goh and Winnie Koh for emerging champions in the Advance and Beginner’s category respectively and Paula Loh for winning the People's Choice Award. For those who completed the bears but did not win a prize, we urge them not to feel disappointed, as everyone who took part in this competition are winners. The experience we have all gained from this competition is invaluable.

Irene Goh, Winner of the Advance Category

Winnie Koh, Winner of the Beginner Category
Paula Loh, Winner of the People's Choice Award
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Anna Filatova, Anastasia and Katherine Filatova for being the judges for this event, and for contributing the generous prizes to the winners and participants.

We believe that this year will be another exciting year for us. This time, we are going to explore making bigger bears – another challenge as most of us have never made a BIG bear before. Thank you Ms Tami Eveslage for agreeing to be judge for this year’s competition.

Teddy Bear Appreciation Session with Kay & Brian Cooper, 30 December 2017

Kay & Brian Cooper are the creators of "The Dolls Coop" and "Cooper Bears" with more than 20 years of bear-making experience.

They own a Teddy Bear Shop (Cottonwool Creations) and Teddy Bear Hospital in Western Australia.
A very warm welcome to Brian and Kay for visiting Singapore.
On 30 December, Kay and Brian gave a sharing session on the History of Bear Making and Teddy Bear Restoration at Wayneston Studios. The event was a blast! We had more than 15 participants!
Everyone was attentive during the sharing session.

Kay sharing the types of joint used on vintage bears.
Kay started by sharing the history of bear making and provided lots of presentation slides of customers' old bears. Some of the bears are in well-loved and in very good condition (in spite of the number of years), whereas some were badly torn into pieces and could not be easily identified because they have been mangled by over-enthusiastic dogs!

The Teddy Bears on every slide, tells a unique story. Each story told us how much love the Teddy Bear has given to the owner during their childhood. No matter how bad the condition, they gave nostalgic memories of the past which are valuable and priceless.

Kay with her handmade creation, Andrew.
Kay also shared tips on Teddy Bear restoration, the choice of stuffing and materials she used for repairing. We were inspired by the stories and adventures they shared! After the sharing session, some collectors adopted the bears made by them and Kay signed on their certificates.

We took a group photo together before we bid good bye to our Australian friends.

We would like to thank Kay, Brian and everyone for taking the time to participate in this event!

We look forward to our next Teddy Bear Appreciation session. Do keep a look-out for the next session on our blog!

Cheers,

Wayneston Studios is featured on Toys Unplugged on 15 October 2017

Wayneston Bears and the Singapore Teddy Bear Club is honored to be featured on Channel 8 again!

This time, the programmed titled 《玩具不插电》Toys Unplugged is a 30 minutes children info-ed program specially for children.

The hosts of this program are Sugie (潘嗣敬), Candyce Toh (杜蕙甹) with 2 kids hosts.

Remember the good "old times"? In those days, the games meant more than just apps! This 13-episode program aims to lure the kids away from their gaming consoles and handheld devices by introducing them parents' favourite childhood games. Besides, the program will also encourage the family to spend their weekend in a fun way by exploring interesting places or activities. All these bonding activities will help to enhance the closeness among family members.

In one of the segment, they invited Wayne to introduce how to make a simple Teddy Bear. After the bear was done, Wayne introduced members of the Singapore Teddy Bear Club to the hosts. The members shared their experiences on bear-making with the audience.

We have shared the segment of the programme on our Youtube channel! We hope you will enjoy the show.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Wawa Pictures and their crew for their professional feature.

We look forward to collaborating with them again in the near future.

Cheers,
Wayneston Studios & Team
