Intermediate Bunny Workshop by Margaret Burke 10 - 12 November 2017

Wayneston Studios is pleased to invite Margaret Burke, an award winning bear artist from Australia, to conduct a 2-day Intermediate Bunny Workshop.

This workshop attracted 5 students to sign up and even Wayne himself couldn't resist and joined in!

The students were all given the bunny kit in advance to complete sewing, assembling and stuffing the bunny first before coming for the class as Margaret focused on teaching the intermediate techniques to create the face and eyes.

The first thing we learned were to paint star burst glass eyes. We started off by painting a thin layer of glitter. After the glitter dried, we added multiple layers of colours, removing  some areas to create patterns and later futher adding another layer of finishing coat to the eyes. As all eyes were painted differently, they all look different and unique!

While waiting for the paint to dry, Margaret taught everyone how to start with needle felting. This was the first time Chio and Benadette learned needle felting and we could see the anxiousness on their faces!

Margaret also shared the different types of felting needles and their uses. After the introduction, everyone started building the face with felting shapes on both side of the face to make them symmetrical.

Needle felting took lots of time! Everybody probably stabbed the wool a few thousand times at different angles to make sure the wool interlocks together, hardening them. After the faces were done, Wayne taught all the students needle sculpting techniques on the nose bridge, setting their glass eyes and making wire armature ears.

Margaret later also demonstrated the use of soft tip brush to apply soft pastels to highlight the face, paws and toes. After the final details are completed, we gave all the bunnies ribbons to give the final touch!

Look at all the bunnies! They all look completely different because that's the beauty of handmade craft! Everyone have added their own personal touch to what they created which are uniquely theirs.

We took group photos with Margaret after the class.

We want to thank  Margaret for her guidance and sharing her knowledge with us. We look forward to her class again next year!

Cheers,
Wayne

Make-a-Bunny Workshop 18 & 25 February 2017

Winnie, Wayne and Hui Chien
On 25 February, a new bunny was born from the creative hands of her proud mummy, Hui Chien!

Hui Chien with her first handmade bunny!
It was Hui Chien's first time making a Teddy Bear/Bunny. Before Hui Chien started, Wayne share with her tips to create a good bear. Following that, Wayne taught her the basic sewing and jointing techniques.

Wayne also demonstrated how to make wired ears for the bunny. Hui Chien was a fast learner and very attentive during the workshop.

The other student, Winnie was back to make her 3rd creation under Wayne's guidance. She had previously attended the Mouse workshop. This time, she brought along a piece of brown mohair which she previously purchased from Wayne to make the bunny. This was a refresher course for her as she needs to recall some of the steps to joint the bunny.

It was a wonderful 2-session workshop with Hui Chien and Winnie. We had lots of fun chatting about our crafts, hobbies and interests.

Wayne is using markers to highlight the bunny's footpad.

Well done to Hui Chien for completing her very first bunny! We have lots of "likes" on Facebook after sharing them on various social media platforms. Due to personal commitments, Winnie was unable to complete her bunny. She will finish the bunny at home and share pictures with us after she has completed it.

We look forward to seeing them again next time with their new creations!

Wayne

Easter Bunnies are out to play!

We are very pleased to introduce 2 of our very latest creation to celebrate Easter with everyone!

These pair of cheerful Easter Bunnies are named Belle & Thumper. Both are 7 inch tall, made from soft alpaca fur. (Excluding the ears)

I have also specially dressed them up so that the couple can go on a excursion or picnic together, and of course not forgetting the Easter eggs! The eggs are beautifully hand drawn and painted with lacquer finishing.

In addition, the ears and arms of the bunnies have wired armatures! You can bend and pose them to your liking.

Belle and Thumper are now available on Artist Bear International and Bear Pile.

Happy Boxing Day! Introducing my last creation of 2011!

Hey everyone! We hope your Christmas is wonderful and fun! Happy Boxing Day!
I am posting this because I have a new creation to show everyone, this is Herbert the Bunny - Last creation for year 2011!

I started off making a bunny for 2011 and now ending with another bunny, this is auspicious I think... bidding good bye to the year of rabbit :) Now you can guess what I am making next :D

Herbert will be flying to her new mum in US next year, he is a swap with a wonderful bear artist. I will share more about our swap next year so stay tuned. This few days I have been slacking... doing nothing but movie marathons LOL...

I am still sanding my BJD doll, very tricky (but I think I can handle this myself!) and at the same time drawing a new design for 2012. More pictures will be ready soon :)

A pair of bunnies now available!

Hello bear friends,

I think these 2 little bunnies will be the last 2 that I will be making for the month of February. This month I need to work on 2 swaps and a competition piece which needs to be ready in March. These will keep me busy busy busy! =)

Here's my 2 new bunnies creations named Karyn and Kendrick. They are made from German and Japanese alpaca. If you have viewed my previous post on the swap bunny and think that Karyn looked alike, you are right! She is the one that is initally made for the swap, however my pretty bear friend has found a new love! We will be swapping this Saturday and I am so looking forward to that day =D

I feel bad to let Karyn stay alone, hence i created Kendrick to accompany her. I hope you will enjoy viewing these pictures. Karyn is now available for adoption on Bear Pile, I will post Kendrick too this week.

New bunny again??? Here's Toothie =D

Yes... I have been crazy lately, I have been making bunnies since day one of 2011... Haha and I am still making them now =) Perhaps I am in the Chinese New Year mood, making more bunnies to welcome the year of rabbit. Sometimes, I wish that I do have bunnies as pets so that I can make more realistic bunnies.

Here's Toothie, my new bunny design. This time I have given him a bunny tooth and air brushing too. Look! He is wearing a Wayneston Bears wooden charm! I hope you will enjoy his pictures.
Toothie is now available on Bear Pile.

I am thinking what to make next? Any suggestions? Maybe I should start making a few more Wayneston Babies =) Thanks for stopping by my blog, we hope you have a nice day =D
