WIP Bear!

Hi everyone, we want to share some pictures of our WIP bear. This is the same bear which Joanne has taught us.

He is turning out quite well and we are very pleased with him!

Do you know that his face is needle felted with wool? It takes Wayne approximately 6 hours to do that.

Do you know, after the face is needle felted, rooting fur back into the wool takes another 12-15 hours?

This is how much time we spent on this bear's face! That's why artist's bear cost so much price for them.

We are currently working on the bear's nose, it needs to be harden, painted and sealed.

We hope you enjoy our WIP pictures! Practise makes prefect! The more we do, the faster we gets!

Have a great weekend! =)

Hugs,
Wayne

Busy is good! Preparing for our next event!

We really enjoy our time working with bears. These are the last 2 chaps which we are making for the Susan Quinlan Doll & Teddy Convention happening next month in Philadelphia.

For those (bear artists) who has not attended the Susan Quinlan Doll & Teddy Convention before, you must have at least 80% of your display mainly just bears, then you are allowed to have 20% for your other animals on display for sale. To be flank, it's a little bit tough for us as we make lots of other animals.

But anyway, we decided to take the challenge!
Sharing today is two of our latest WIP bears.

We hope to complete them end of this week and take some photographs of them and prepare the certificates next week.

Hope you will enjoy our WIP pictures.

Have a great day.

Cheers,
Wayne

Wayneston Bears GO!!! Pokemon Challenge - Jiggly Puff!

With the recent Pokemon Go (a mobile app game) craze, Wayne's brother (Johnny) requested him to design and make a special toy for his friend's birthday.

Wayne and Johnny have been Pokémon fans since young. So without hesitation, Wayne decided to take up the challenge to make something different this time.

To our surprise, the request was to make a Jiggy Puff for Johnny's friend!

Credit: Image from Yahoo Images

This Pokémon is simple to design and make as Jiggy Puff is just a round pink shaped toy. As there wasn't any complicated curves or profile of the toy, it took about 30 minutes for Wayne to design the pattern from scratch!

Wayne took some reference from the images found on the internet. Some of the key features of the toy included her big eyes, short arms & legs and her unique curly hairstyle!

Wayne and Johnny selected a piece of soft pink miniature fabric, tracing and cutting out the pattern for sewing. Wayne gave Johnny guidance on how to sew and stuff the toy. Our mum helped too with her new sewing machine!

After sewing and stuffing the toy, Johnny pinned and positioned the arms and legs onto the body and later applied ladder stitching technique to attach them onto the body.

Wayne helped to sew the hair onto the head. The eyes were very simple to make as well. We used three round wooden discs of different sizes as template, traced onto felt pieces, cut and glue them together.

After the toy was completed, Johnny gave the eyes some finishing touches with copic markers. The eyes were then glued and the toy was finally completed!

We were very pleased with our very first Pokemon Challenge toy - Jiggy Puff!

As we all know due to copyright issues, we can't sell the toy. However this is a gift and not meant for sale so it should be fine!

We are happy to complete this toy together as a family and we look forward to making another Pokemon again as a challenge!

Wondering what should we make next... any suggestion?

Wishing all a wonderful weekend!

Busy is good!

Hi everyone! It has been a long time since the blog has been updated.

Most of you must be wondering what I have been up to. Well just to share with you, I am in the midst of preparing a series of events for 2015.

Currently, I am working on 3 customed dragons for a collector, 1 Xmas teddy for xmas exchange, 2 Valentine Teddy Bears for the Make a Bear Workshop which will take place in January 2015.

We are also looking at revamping our website and have been looking at different website platforms.

We are pleased to annouce that we have registered a new company called Wayneston Studios! We are aiming to provide a variety of workshops to cater to the different needs of people. Teddy Bear makers will also be able to purchase bear making materials from us through the revamped website. Stay tuned and we will update everyone with more exciting news once everything has been finalised.

In addition, we will be featured on a Channel 8 Kid's Programme "Super Family" sometime in mid December.

Below are some of the "work in progress" creations. With so many things currently on-going, we can't wait to see what next year will bring to us. I am sure exciting times are ahead and we will be back to share more updates soon. Stay tuned!

Hugs,
Wayne

More pictures of my new bear

Few posts ago I mentioned that I am making a few new bears for a special project.
Here are some more pictures of the bears I have made this week.

The middle one is the first prototype which I am unhappy with, because the body is too flat and short!
Hence I have revised the design to make the body longer and rounder which you can see on the left.

I am still unhappy with the 2nd prototype! The one on the left ending up looking like a potato!
No... that's not what I want! The 3rd revision on the right, which is the pink bear looks much better after the 3rd attempt. Sometimes, it takes more than one or two time of trial and error to understand how to make the design "Look Right!". You can only see the final outcome after you stuff the bear.

My niece Lavigne with my new bear.
Lavigne visits us last week. Irresistibly, she quickly took the bear and get a picture taken!

One of my friend made some colourful pastries few days ago. Without any hesitation, I placed the bear on a glass and have a quick instagram photo taken with the pastries.

Alright! I am finally happy with the latest design! Below are the improved design of the bear!

Thanks for visiting us today to read more about our newest creations!
Have a great day!

Special Project WIP

Besides working on my regular mohair/alpaca creations, right now I am working on a special project too.

It's my first working on fleece material and I never knew it turns out well!

Sharing with you my first prototype. This design still needs improvement to the body proportions.

New materials to experiment with!

Polar Bear WIP

I have just completed a polar bear and he will be available soon after I take some nice pictures of him.

Below are 2 images of him before and after. You can see how much different the bear has become when you add more details to him.

Before details are added

Almost done with more details added
I am extremely pleased of him. I know one day, I will become even better as long as I didn't give up trying. The more I do, I am sure I will get there someday!
(Self-motivational thoughts) :)

Hope you like my new bear!

WIP- A panda for a special friend

I am in the midst of making a new panda for my special friend, Margaret Burke (Nikkel bears).

I have been a fan of Nikkel bears before Margaret and I even knew each other. I first encountered Nikkel bears in a Singapore shop a few years back. Her signature hand-painted eyes give souls to her bears which makes them extra lovely. I could still vividly recall an angel bear she made with wings on her back, I couldn't take my eyes off her. I never knew that we could be close friends later on, communicating most of the time via Facebook and through emails.

Margaret lives in Sydney and we met 2 times in Australia during bear shows - Melbourne in 2012 and Brisbane in 2013. I am very thankful to Margaret for giving us guidance when we are at the show. We have also requested to have our show tables placed next to each other! Dinner time for us is always special; we have wine with Chinese cuisine and spicy food as well! After dinner, we did some sight seeing as well.

A swap was agreed 3 years ago. However due to work commitment, it was delayed. Now the time has come........ we have finally confirmed a date to swap!

The swap will take place probably be in June when we meet in Brisbane this year. I am so excited to meet her and her bears again.

Below are the WIP pictures of her panda. Do come back again to have a better view of the completed panda!

Brand New Creation for the New Year!

Guess what I am making now? Yes! A pony!

In 2012, I custom made a pony named Eric for my cousin. Although the pony was well received and had compliments from people, I did not continue the design. To date, that is the only pony I have ever created.
As you all know it's the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese Zodiac Calendar. Hence, I took this opportunity to create a new pony design to usher in the Year of the Horse. This time, I made some emphasis on the pony's facial expression with extra needle sculpting and drew a body proportion which more closely resembled the horse.

This new design is meant to be sitted  but i guess it's perfectly fine... have you ever seen a horse walking with 2 hind feet? LOL
Below is a picture of Eric made in 2012 and some pictures of my work-in-progress pony. He is almost ready and I will be listing him online for adoption later this weekend.

A Big Fat Black Bear

I am currently working on another bear on fours. He has a longer fur with tips. For those who have been reading my blog regularly may be familiar that I usually make smaller bears ranging 5-8 inches tall. A bigger bear like this is a little more challenging for me.

I fell in love with this new design (bigger bears) and the leather material which I used for paw pads, after making Blitz the Polar Bear a couple weeks back.

To further challenge myself, I sew a leather nose for this bear. As there aren't any tutorials around to learn this, I have to spend sometime to experiment it myself. It turned out to be much better than I expected.
He will be ready soon this weekend. I can't wait to share more of his pictures with you!
