Birthday Swap with Kati Kainulainen

Last month, we posted on our blog a swap proposal for my birthday in April.

We are very excited to receive 2 emails from different artist who are interested to do a swap with us.

Today we would like to share our first swap with Ms Kati Kainulainen.

Profile about Kati:
Kati is a talented ceramic and glass designer based in Kuopio, Finland. She loves everything tiny and one of her dearest hobbies are doll houses and miniatures in scale 1:12.

She has been a miniature & ceramics artist for over 10 years. She uses plaster molds and liquid clay in her works.

Miniature Ceramic Art by Kati Kainulainen

Kati sent me a few sets of miniature ceramics pottery & a bath tub for our birthday and in return, we sent her a 2.5 inch tall miniature kitty named Miuku-Mauku.

You may view more of Kati's works and creations on her blog: www.lasituvanminiatyyrit.blogspot.com

Facebook: www.facebook.com/KatisDollsHouseCeramics/

Miuku-Mauku is named by Kati as it sounds like Miau which symbolises cat. This is our very first time creating a small jointed animal and it's pretty challenging to create one due to it's small size. We are very pleased with our first attempt to make a miniature cat specially for Kati and she is pleased with him too.

Miuku-Mauku is now on his way to Finland to met his new mum.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Kati for the wonderful gifts! We are happy to have her miniatures added into our collection, and soon we will look into expanding and exploring the world of minis!

Look at Miuku-Mauku standing in the bath tub and having a tea party with items all made by Kati. He looks very happy doesn't he?

We look forward to our 2nd swap with Ms Susan Leigh, an Australian artist, so stay tuned!
Thank you for visiting us today, have a wonderful day!

New Panda ~ Reserved

Earlier this year, I have been in the process of making a new panda. Finally, he is now ready to meet and greet all of you!

His name is Tai Shan, a special bear made for my special friend, Margaret Burke (Nikkel Bears).

2 year ago, both of us agreed to have a swap and the time has finally come for us to do it!

Tai Shan will be flying together with me to the Brisbane Winter Wonderland Show on June later this year.
Margaret and I will meet up face to face to have the bears swapped, and have a picture taken to remember the occasion as well.

I hope you will like my new panda, Tai Shan, which was named by Margaret herself. :)

Have a wonderful day.

Bear Swap with Shanna Hiniker

Fozzy made by Shanna

A teddy bear named Fozzy made by Shanna (The Little Leaf) has arrived last week.

I think he is the cutest bear I have in my collection. He is small and soft, he even has little trapunto paw and foot pads made from felt. I am very impressed with Shanna's craftmanship, her work is definitely worth to add into your bear collection.

I have always wanted to learn how to make trapunto paws and foot pads and I thought it never going to happen. After looking at Shanna's bear, I am inspired to try this technique soon on a bear.
Nibbles a mouse swapped for Fozzy
Thank you Shanna, for the lovely swap bear, I will treasure him. For our exchange, I sent her my latest mouse, Nibbles. I am glad to hear she loves him too.

You can read more about our swap on her blog here.

My Birthday Swap

My early Birthday Wish....

I am hoping that someone could do a swap with me for my birthday again this year, my birthday falls in April and the swap should be ready by end of March or early April. Last year I had 4 swaps and this makes me very happy.

I know it's kinda rush asking for a swap since now is mid of February, I am currently busy with my website design too and I have hardly enough time to create new bears. Therefore, I am proposing to reduce the number of swaps to just ONE or TWO for my birthday this year.

If you are a Doll or Bear Artist that is interested to have a swap with me, kindly send me an email so that we can discuss further about the swap. Please send an email to: waynestonbears@yahoo.com.sg , subject title - Birthday Swap. I will reply all your emails by 20 February to inform you if you are in my swap list.

Thank you for reading my blog posts and I love you all.

Have a blessed new year =)

Happy New Year! ~ My Swaps in 2012

My last swap of year 2012 arrives last Thursday, from a very good friend - Janice Woodard from USA. I have many swaps last year, more than any years in my bear making journey. Maybe more swaps than the number of bears I sold! LOL

Swaps are very fun especially when it's with someone that you admire and wanted to have a piece of their wonderful creation in your collection - you can show them off to your friends! It's also a platform to build trust and friendships over the globe. If someone wants to swap a bear with you that's a compliment because he/she likes your work!

I don't always ask for swaps, but only to friends (mostly from facebook) that wants a trade/swap. I did get rejects or no replies from some of them, but it's prefectly fine... because at the same time I did received offers from friends to have a swap too. On some occasions, it's not just ONE but TWO! =) I can never complain on having too many furry friends!

Below are the recaps of my Swaps in 2012!

SWAP WITH JANICE WOODARD
This is my first time swapping with Janice. I send her a squirrel named Wintersnow in exchange for her bunny Meeko. Meeko is 12 inches tall, made from beautiful faux fur and has a needle felted face! I am so in love with her when I received her, it's a prefect companion for the 2 little mice which I adopted from her last year.

Here's the first swap for year 2012! I have decided to start off the new year with a post recap of my 2012 swap! Isn't this exciting? So let's get started....

 SWAP WITH LISA HEILAND

Lisa is a lovely friend I met on facebook. She is a humourous lady and I enjoy chatting with her. She makes realistic bears and her craftmanship is excellent. I am a proud owner of her 2 bears namely Herbert and Rose, in return I exchanged my bunny which she named Herbert as well and Chappy the monkey. It's a wonderful swap and we have plans to exchange again later this year.

MY BIRTHDAY SWAP WITH KATIE FULFORD

Katie is my very first collector and is my very best friend. She is an artist as well, she makes intricate miniature needle felted animals and is a painter as well. Last year was a special year for my birthday, we have agreed to have a swap. I swapped Baby Mocha for her paintings. Katie is generous, I asked for one and in return she gave me 4! It's my best birthday gift ever!

MY BIRTHDAY SWAP WITH NATALIA OELOFSE

I want to thank Natalia for proposing a birthday swap with me. I went to her blog and saw this adorable bear and wanted her badly. She is very kind and agreed to make a similar one specially for me. In return I drew a new panda pattern and made her Panday. I am very glad that she love my panda too.

MY BIRTHDAY SWAP WITH KELLY DAUTERMAN

Kelly is one of my most favourite bear artist. She makes traditional bears and I always called them "Timeless Beauty", no matter how many times or on any occasion I looked at them, they never fail to make me smile! They give a mysterious nostalgic feel to me as a collector. I am now a proud owner of 4 bears made by Kelly. I swapped James with Kelly's Panda named Jinan.

 SWAP WITH ANGELICA HOLM

I am proud to say that I have a swap with famous artist - Angelica Holm! Angelica makes mostly realistic monkeys and I can say that she makes the best monkey! I love every single piece of her works, they never fail to melt my heart. One day I am going to adopt another one of her creation again. The dragon I sent her is named Amaryllis.

 SWAP WITH NIKKI BRITT

This is my first time swapping for an artist doll! Nikki Britt is also a famous doll artist based in US. We get to know each other through Facebook and Instagram. She told me how much she loves my dragon and wanted a swap. I agreed and she sent me a Ball Jointed Doll, Felix designed by her. It was a limited edition, moulded from Resin. She wanted a similar coloured dragon which I swapped with Angelica, so I made her Artemis. I am thrilled! I have always wanted to collect dolls but they are too expensive for me to afford them. I am glad to have another doll added into my collection.

I want thank all the artist above for the wonderful swap and I will treasure them forever. We hope you enjoy reading about our swap recap in 2012. Wishing all of you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

P.S look out for our next birthday swap in Feb/March.

Hugs, Wayne

A Dragon for a Doll

I would like to share with you today, one of our wonderful swap recently.

I have traded a dragon, Artemis for an Artist Doll "Felix" made by the famous Nikki Britt from US.

Artist profile - Introduction wrote by Nikki:

My name is Brittani Nicole LimaOsorio, but I go by Nikki Britt. I am primarily a sculptor but I like to dabble in photography, painting, drawing, bear making, and almost any form of art I can get my hands on! I enjoy what I do, it brings me a lot of joy and satisfaction every time I finish a piece. Through my art I like to portray the innocence of life. That time in our life when everything was magical and wonderful, when anything was possible and our imagination was our limit; when dreams were what life was made out of. The nostalgia of this time brings a smile to everyone...and that is my goal.

Above: Wintersnow and Felix

I really love Nikki's dolls, they are so child-like, sweet looking, posable and made with excellent craftmanship. You can view more of her beautiful creations on her website here: http://nikkibritt.wix.com/fairytailsbjds

You can see that Felix is still naked, I gotta find time to give him some make ups and clothes!
Felix is so photogenic! He looks good in any angle I posed him and fits nicely with Wayneston Bears! You will see more of him appearing in more of my bear photos.

Above is Artemis the Dragon which I made specially for Nikki. I hope you like him too.
Thanks for popping by today, we hope you enjoy reading about our swap.

A Dragon for a Monkey

Last month I had a swap with one of my favourite artist, Angelica Holm. Angelica lives in Spain and she is one of the best monkey maker/artist that I have met so far. Her works are unique, original and had excellent craftmanship, she is a great inspiration to me.

I was thrilled when she agreed to have a swap with me, I have always wanted to add her monkey into my collection. Angelica chose a dragon named Amaryllis made by me and I am very glad and honored to make this exchange.

This time, I took some photos of the monkey with my office's high-end Canon camera in a shadow box, the results were superb! With the use of 2 slave lightings on both sides of the shadow box and the master flash attached on the camera, it minimizes the shadows casted and enables a sharper image of the monkey.

Here are 3 of the best shots (Please let me know your comments so that I could improve on my photography, thank you!)

These are some photos of Amaryllis which I sent Angelica for the monkey swap:

We hope you enjoy reading about our swap today. WE HAVE MORE SWAPS STORIES TO SHARE THIS YEAR!!! Have a great day! =)

A Monkey for a Bear

Hi everyone, I want to share a new bear which was added to my collection last week.

I fall in love with one of the bears my friend, Lisa Heiland has created for the Friends of Teddy Online Show few months ago. This bear named Rose was one of the few which hasn't find a home after the show. After chatting with Lisa on facebook, we have agreed to have another swap again.

I have traded my monkey Chappy for her bear, Rose. Lisa is one of my favourite artists and is also one of my best friend. This is my 2nd time having a swap with her and we are looking forward to our next swap soon.

Rose made by Lisa Heiland

Chappy by Wayneston Bears

Baby Lavigne was here at my house last week, so I took the chance to take some pictures of Lisa's Bear together with her. Look at her cute little face with the bear!

Have a great weekend everyone!
