Lucky Puppy Workshop, 21 & 28 January 2018
To commemorate the Year of the Dog, Wayneston Studios conducted a brand new Puppy Workshop - "Lucky". The two-day workshop saw five students namely, Carmel, Joanne, Bernadette, Fei and Nicole joining the class.
The puppy workshop took slightly longer to complete, as compared to making a conventional teddy bear. Nevertheless, the five students were determined and managed to finish their creations on their own.
We were happy to have Carmel and Bernadette coming back for more bear making sessions. They both took this chance to ask more questions and enhanced their skills as they refreshed their memory of what they had learnt during their first class with Wayne last year.

As for Fei and Joanne, it was their very first time sewing and learning how to make a "Teddy Bear"from scratch. Wayne shared with them the basic sewing techniques and to their credit, they were able to pick up the skills quickly.

Nicole, a self taught bear maker |
Nicole, a self taught bear maker, already has some Teddy Bear making knowledge. To-date she has made more than seven bears, an impressive feat! She joined the class to better learn and understand how to improve her skills.
Everyone was very patient and excited during the creative process, with Wayne happy to see the final results, as the "puppy creations" turned out truly well.

Congratulations to Nicole for completing your very first puppy! |

Fun with Pico Dragons
This is the very first time Wayneston Studios has organised such an event!
Last week, Wayneston Studios hosted "Fun with Pico Dragons" and we were excited to see four participants attending the event.

L-R: Chio, Wayne, Philip, Su Ling and Carmel |
To join this event, participants purchased a Plamodel Pico Dragon (Viloet or Ashes) from Wayneston Studios and enjoyed the complimentary session to D.I.Y and apply basic make-up on their Pico dragon.
The participants were all very friendly and we had a great time assembling and customising our unique Pico Dragon! First, we gave the dragons light sanding with fine graded sand papers and used a dry paint brush to apply pastel colours onto the various areas which we wanted to highlight. Lastly after the shading, we gave the dragon a coat of glitter for the finishing touches and prayed fixatives to seal the paint. In a few hours, the dragons all appeared to be colourful and painted in our unique style!

Make-a-Bear Workshop 18 & 30 December 2017
We have a wonderful group of four students attending our last Teddy Bear Workshop before we bid good bye to 2017.
The four students namely, Christine, Jen, Choy Har and Aaron learnt how to create a Teddy Bear from Wayne.

As the four participants have never made a Teddy Bear before, Wayne share the rules and principles of bear-making in great detail.
Wayne shared the importance of choosing the right fur for the right project and identifying the fur pile direction before cutting the fur.
Although first timers, the participants were able to sew nicely and displayed great dexterity with their fingers. After the two-day classes, they have all completed the Teddy Bears and the smiles on their faces seemed to indicate that their efforts have been all worthwhile!
At the end of the creative session, we took a group photo together with our trophies (Teddy Bears).

Teddy Bear Appreciation Session with Kay & Brian Cooper, 30 December 2017
Kay & Brian Cooper are the creators of "The Dolls Coop" and "Cooper Bears" with more than 20 years of bear-making experience.
They own a Teddy Bear Shop (Cottonwool Creations) and Teddy Bear Hospital in Western Australia.
On 30 December, Kay and Brian gave a sharing session on the History of Bear Making and Teddy Bear Restoration at Wayneston Studios. The event was a blast! We had more than 15 participants!

Kay started by sharing the history of bear making and provided lots of presentation slides of customers' old bears. Some of the bears are in well-loved and in very good condition (in spite of the number of years), whereas some were badly torn into pieces and could not be easily identified because they have been mangled by over-enthusiastic dogs!
The Teddy Bears on every slide, tells a unique story. Each story told us how much love the Teddy Bear has given to the owner during their childhood. No matter how bad the condition, they gave nostalgic memories of the past which are valuable and priceless.
Kay also shared tips on Teddy Bear restoration, the choice of stuffing and materials she used for repairing. We were inspired by the stories and adventures they shared! After the sharing session, some collectors adopted the bears made by them and Kay signed on their certificates.
We took a group photo together before we bid good bye to our Australian friends.

We would like to thank Kay, Brian and everyone for taking the time to participate in this event!
We look forward to our next Teddy Bear Appreciation session. Do keep a look-out for the next session on our blog!
Cheers,
