Singapore Teddy & Friends Show 2018 updates

Hi everyone,

We are pleased to inform you that Wayneston Studios is hosting a Teddy Bear Show this year on 16 - 18 November at Visual Arts Centre. We have sent out application forms earlier this year and received good feedback about the show.

The last Singapore Teddy Bear Show was 5 years ago, we miss the good old days and therefore finally decided to start a brand new show this year hoping to revive and bring back fond memories. We believe that this is the event to celebrate friendship, artistry and a great bonding time for families and collectors.

We are excited to announce that we have an amazing group of talented International Artists coming to this event and more to come!

We invite you to join this event with your family. If you are a Teddy Bear or Doll Artist, we invite you to become one of our exhibitors too. Please email your interest to Wayne at: waynestonbears@yahoo.com.sg or info@sgteddyandfriendsshow.com

Teddy Bear Appreciation Session with Kay & Brian Cooper, 30 December 2017

Kay & Brian Cooper are the creators of "The Dolls Coop" and "Cooper Bears" with more than 20 years of bear-making experience.

They own a Teddy Bear Shop (Cottonwool Creations) and Teddy Bear Hospital in Western Australia.
A very warm welcome to Brian and Kay for visiting Singapore.
On 30 December, Kay and Brian gave a sharing session on the History of Bear Making and Teddy Bear Restoration at Wayneston Studios. The event was a blast! We had more than 15 participants!
Everyone was attentive during the sharing session.

Kay sharing the types of joint used on vintage bears.
Kay started by sharing the history of bear making and provided lots of presentation slides of customers' old bears. Some of the bears are in well-loved and in very good condition (in spite of the number of years), whereas some were badly torn into pieces and could not be easily identified because they have been mangled by over-enthusiastic dogs!

The Teddy Bears on every slide, tells a unique story. Each story told us how much love the Teddy Bear has given to the owner during their childhood. No matter how bad the condition, they gave nostalgic memories of the past which are valuable and priceless.

Kay with her handmade creation, Andrew.
Kay also shared tips on Teddy Bear restoration, the choice of stuffing and materials she used for repairing. We were inspired by the stories and adventures they shared! After the sharing session, some collectors adopted the bears made by them and Kay signed on their certificates.

We took a group photo together before we bid good bye to our Australian friends.

We would like to thank Kay, Brian and everyone for taking the time to participate in this event!

We look forward to our next Teddy Bear Appreciation session. Do keep a look-out for the next session on our blog!

Cheers,
Wayneston Studios

Tulip Floral Bear Workshop @ Gardens by the Bay, 7 May 2016

We are delighted to have been asked to conduct a Floral Bear workshop in the "Most outstanding attraction in the world", Gardens by the Bay, for 40 participants yesterday.

This event was organised by Gardens by the Bay in conjunction with Mother's Day and their on-going Tulipmania floral display.

Gardens by the Bay has invited Wayneston Studios to specially design a Floral Bear with Tulip pattern just for the event.

As the workshop was only 2 hours, some parts of the bear had to be pre-sewn so that all participants were able to complete their Bears and bring them home.

Being a Mother's Day event, we expected most of the participants to comprise of a Mother/Father and their child to make the bear. We were surprised to see more adults attending the workshop instead! Nevertheless, it is very encouraging to know that there are still plenty of people out there in Singapore who are interested to learn to make a bear!

To kick off the event, Debbie, the Manager for Programming (Education) gave an introduction on the origins of the flower, Tulip. Later, Wayne gave a introduction about himself, some of his works and countries he had visited to showcase his works.

After the short introduction, the workshop finally commenced! The participants were all excited as they opened the workshop kit. They first inserted the nose and then stuffed poly fiber into the bear's head, body and legs. There were 5 tables in total and each table had an art facilitator assisting the participants in making their bears.

As it was the first time for most of the participants to sew a bear, Wayne and the Art facilitators showed them the basic sewing techniques to close the seams of the opening and string jointing the arms.

The children did the stuffing, while their parents did the sewing. After they completed their bear, seeing all their happy faces made it all worthwhile!

At the end of the workshop, we took group photos with some of the participants.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Gardens by the Bay, their staff and volunteers for inviting us to conduct this wonderful event. Special thanks to the participants and our art facilitators for their hard work to make this event a success!

We hope to see you soon again! Wishing all mums a very Happy Mother's Day! =D

P.S: Tuplimania Floral Display is currently on-going till 22 May.

Teddy Bear Workshop @ WaterwayPoint, 1 May 2016

Last Saturday, we had a wonderful 2-hour bear making session at the newest shopping mall in Singapore, Waterway Point!

Waterway Point is owned by Fraser Centrepoint, located at 83 Punggol Central. It is also about a 10 minutes walk from the newly opened Punggol Safra. With the MRT and bus interchange beside the mall, it is no wonder that the mall is full of people and bustling with activity!

In conjunction with the May Day Carnival, the Waterway Point management hosted a Celebratory Teddy Bear Picnic at their outdoor Garden Area.

The Garden area can accommodate more than 200 people. We are pleased to be invited to be one of the event's highlight to teach participants, mainly children, to make a Teddy Bear with their parents.

As the audience were mainly children, Wayne specially designed a simple bear with pre-sewn parts. The Children stuffed the bear's head, body and legs, while their parents helped to sew the openings and attach the arms.

Wayne also designed a mascot image of the bear and printed them onto lanyards for the Art Facilitators to wear for the event. In total, we have created more than 30 bears for the children at the event.

This is the biggest event we have participated thus far. The programme ran smoothly and it was a great success!

We look forward to the next 2 events with Gardens by the Bay and Singapore Island Country Club. We would also like to welcome any queries to organise corporate events similar to this event for schools, clubs and companies. For enquiries please contact Wayne at waynestonbears@yahoo.com.sg

After the event had ended, Wayne and his team quickly took a group photo with the giant Teddy Bear display before the area was cordoned off. We would like to specially thank our family and friends for helping, and those who came down to support us for the event.

We look forward to future collaborations with the event organiser.
