Next Project!
I am back from my Melbourne trip for almost 2 weeks. So what's next?
I am currently working on more critters for the Friends of Teddy Online Show Show in July, 2 of the critters are now completed and I am now working on the 3rd animal right now.
Time seems very tight for me lately, I am still trying to pull myself back to work on my bears. After the long break, it's has been hard to recover from my laziness. LOL
I have made a brand new critter which I had never made before, you will be only seeing him the first time at this show. Is there any animals you would like to see me making for this show?
Hugs, Wayne

The Art of Pricing for Profit
I always questioned myself if I am getting anywhere. I have been very lazy lately and hasn’t been motivated L Today I checked my email and came across an email from Etsy, subject titled “How to Price for Profit Workbook”. Most of the time I would delete mails from Etsy however this subject had triggered me to read what’s in the content. I was right… this is a really good stuff!
I am not trained to do proper accounting for my bear business, however I made an excel profit and loss sheet 3 years ago to keep track of my expenses and income. My goal was to keep this hobby self sustain, meaning that I need not fork out excess personal income to keep this expensive hobby. If I really do, my mum would scream…
This email from Etsy links you to a PDF page called “The Art of Pricing for Profit”. I found this topic very interesting so I continued reading and clicking on several links on the pages. It bought me to one of the website which makes me excited; this website is called “Outright”. Outright is a website which helps you organize and generates reports on your income and expenses, this way you know what items are you over spending and is generating income.
One of the links which I came across while reading was "Designing an MBA" . After you joined their mailing list, you will receive a PDF ebook titled "The Best of Skill Price + Profit". It's a hundred pages ebook, I have received much information on ways to improve this hobby business and do it right. I am inspired, I hope this would continue to keep me motivated.
I hope that the information on this blog has been useful, have a creative day!

Melbourne Trip Day 3 - Visit to the Melbourne Zoo
The weather is wonderful, 13 degrees that day, we just worn a jacket to keep us warm. We took a cab to the Melbourne Zoo which was about 20 minutes away from our Motel.
This is the entrance of the zoo, it looks very different from Singapore, the entrance doesn't look like a zoo to us, haha! We took a picture with the logo which is a design of 3 apes.
Look at this monkey, he is caught yawning...
These are real Pelicans, they are huge! Each of them height about our hips level, my dad and mum are so brave to have taken a picture with one of them! I am not sure if they bite!
Isn't this wonderful? Zebras and Giraffes are living harmoniously together. We are lucky to catch the show here. The pretty zoo keeper feeds the 15 years old giraffe with carrots while introducing her to us.
These are very big Wombats, they love to dig deep undergrounds to build homes.
What a disappointment! The weather is so good to sleep! The koala refuses to wake up :(
A group of cute little wild boars!
We visit the shop to purchase some souveniors back home.
Remember "Timon" the cute little Meerkat from the Disney movie "The Lion King"? We are so excited to see these active and mischievous little ones at the Melbourne zoo. They aren't afraid of us, instead they ran towards us to take photos of them. They are so cute that I wanted to keep one as a pet!
This is the most favourite place in the zoo! Look at these little Penguins, they are one of the smallest breed! Isn't that interesting? They live on the land unlike those we see mostly which live in cold places. Each of them have different colour tags on both their wings, this enables the zoo keeper to know their names and location. They are very well trained and organise during the feeding time. Each of them has a different personality they are so cute!

Look! It's a Peter Pan Sculpture!
This tiger is so realistically and beautifully made! If only I could carry him back to Singapore and goes through without difficulty at the airport customs LOL!
Thanks for reading on our Melbourne Trip today!

Dragon, Garnie Smith
Garnie Smith is the botanical name for green apple, hence this is how this dragon gets his unique name.
Garnie Smith is final work from the outcome of my hand dyed mohair. He is dyed green using a piece of white mohair. If you look carefully, his backing is still white whereas the fur is green. This gives him an interesting combination and contrast. I am really happy with his final outcome.
I have listed Garnie Smith on Bear Pile. You may find more information about him one BearPile.
Thank you for visiting us today, have a wonderful week ahead! =)

Melbourne Trip Day 2 - Melbourne Bear Fair (5 May 2012)
The day has finally come! It's the Bear Fair in Melbourne, Berwick Leisure Centre! This is an interesting place, the event is held in an indoor basket ball court, I have never imagine that! Can you?
This is my table display. I bought along with me 22 bears/animals, they are small in size so I have to bring more to fill my table. You can see that my banner fits nicely to the width of the table, they are secured at the eyelets with metal thumb tacks knocked into the wooden table.
A very pretty lady walk towards me after I set up my table, she asked to have a picture taken with me. I look at her fimilar face and was thinking "hey, I have seen her somewhere before, but where?" After sometime, I recalled that she is one of the famous bear artist in Australia! She is Helen Gleeson (Bare Cub Designs). Helen makes very cute Mink Bears, I love her table display, her bears looks like pastries!
Lisa Dopking (Megelles) is the 2nd artist that came to speak to me, I am surprise because she is one of my facebook friend! I asked to have a photo taken, look at her beautiful table of bears!
Here is Valma Bolton, owner of Teddy Bits. She is such a cheerful lady with a great smile! Teddy Bits provides bearing making workshops and supplies, patterns and sewing kits. One day if I do visit Australia again, I would definitely like to visit her shop.
Margaret Burke's table is just beside me! Look at how happy my mum is standing besides them! I am glad my family enjoys the show too! Margaret is an award winning artist from Sydney, you can see more of her beautiful Nikkel Bears on her blog here.
Susan Leigh, creator of Bear Leigh Bears is at the show too, I am happy to see her and she is one of my facebook friend as well.
Can you see a fimilar face on this picture? Yes! It's Herbie the Squirrel! Leah is mummy of Herbie, she adopted Herbie last year. How wonderful it is to met my bear collector in Australia! I quickly asked my cousin to take a picture of us with Herbie and the Award (1st Place, Animal Category in Singapore International Teddy Bear Award 2011). Leah is so friendly, I know we will meet again very soon.
Hey wait! How can we miss her out? She is Linda Benson of Benson Bears! Linda is one of the most reputable bear artist in the bear making industry, lots of students flew to Australia attend her bear workshops. She is a guru, I hope one day to attend one of her classes.
Craig is one of my collector as well =) He adopted Eddie, a traditional bear which I made in my early days. I want to thank Craig for providing me lots of information about Melbourne before I went, you are so helpful! =)
This is Sandra-kay and her lovely mum that can speak and understand Chinese! Wow! They are both very friend, one day they might come to participate in the Singapore Bear Show!
Merilyn Willits Pursell of Bearwildered Bears is my facebook friend too. We chat a few times on facebook, i am glad that she could recognise me at the show! LOL
Her bears are filled with personality and are well like by everyone. One day I will add one of her bears in my collection.
Josey Freni, has a lovely table of bears! Her table is beside Kim Garratt. Both of them are working at Bear Essence, a teddy bear shop in Melbourne. At Bear Essence you could sign up for Linda, Merilyn, Josey and many other great artist's bear making workshop.
Last but not least, she is the one that make all this happen and gathers all the artists to the show! Melissa Kemp, organiser of the show! Melissa is the owner of The Art of Teddy Bears in Sydney, you may visit her website here to check out on the latest upcoming event.
Some of our group photos. Hope you like my photo tour on the Melbourne Bear Show, see you again some day! =)
