Make a Mouse Workshop, 5 & 25 May 2013

I am extremely pleased to share with you today, some creations made by my students during the Mouse Workshop conducted recently this month.

3 students signed up for the Make a Mouse Workshop in early May 2013. It was their first attempt to make/sew a mouse. Even with no prior sewing experience, they picked up basic sewing techniques quickly and in due time, were able to manipulate with the sewing needle proficiently.

On their first lesson, the students namely, Johnny, Carol and Jovina, learnt basic sewing skills. They sew some of the body parts and completed making the mouse's head with the embroidered nose. Uncompleted parts were bought home to finish. At the same time, sewing during their free time helps to reinforce the sewing techniques they have learnt on the first day.

They learnt jointing, stuffing and closing of seams on their second lesson. During the process, I was excited to see all their hard work paying off and watching their mice coming to life was extremely gratifying. After assembling, the students trimmed the fur and gave shadings to their mice to enhance the looks.

It was a fun experience having them in our class and we look forward to seeing them again in future.

We hope you enjoy viewing the pictures below of our very first Make a Mouse Workshop. Enjoy.

Hugs, Wayne

Cheddar the Mouse

Here's another new mouse named Cheddar which I have made for a client lately. He is now happily living in Australia with his new mum who owns a lovely teddy bear shop filled with more teddies and friends.

Cheddar is adopted!

Time is running out, I am now working on two dragons for the Brisbane Winter Wonderland Show in Mid June. There is still so much things to prepare.... I have to manage my time well to get things ready.

Hope you like Cheddar, I am looking forward to having more fun and actions in bear making this weekend!

Hugs, Wayne

Make a Mouse Workshop 24 April 2013

I started a trial on "Make a Mouse Workshop" 2 weeks ago with my best friend, Philip before proceeding to promote the workshop.

It was important as it helped me to know how much time is required to complete a mouse for students with no prior sewing experience. I need to understand the difficulty level of this workshop and see if it is easy for future students to understand.

During the process of making the mouse, Philip asked me questions and this prepared me for the upcoming classes commencing this month in May.

It took Philip approximately 2 weeks, 10 hours to complete him. Of course along the way, he had to bring back the remaining parts of the body home to sew and come back the following week to learn how to stuff and joint the mouse.

I think one of the most difficult process in bear/animal making is the face. In most instances, the face will appear distorted after stuffing if it wasn't sewn symmetrically in the beginning. The face is the soul of the artwork, this includes the placement of the eyes and the position/size of the nose.

Usually, my students will complete the head during the first session of the workshop with me guiding them through each step. This will give them much more motivation and they will look forward to the following week to complete their bear/animal.

I have started another Mouse Making Workshop last week with 3 students and their mice are coming alive. I can't wait to share more pictures of their end products with all of you.

Below are some pictures of the mouse made by Philip, I hope you will like it. Philip is now making another bear. Please do give him some encouragement and I believe he will become a fine artist one day.
